Bronx Medical Outreach trip to the Dominican Republic, March 2018

Yiyun's Message

Hello,

This coming Spring, I will work to help alleviate some of these healthcare concerns in the Medical Outreach trip to Dominican Republic I have joined with VAW Bronx Chapter at Fordham University.

Our primary project is to hold mobile medical clinics, where we will work with local health care professionals to provide free primary medical care to communities including gathering patient history, taking vital signs, holding patient consultations and giving free medications as prescribed by the doctors.

In order to make this trip a success, I need your help!

We are working to raise funds to purchase medications and supplies for our mobile clinics. Your donations will go toward providing free medical attention to these communities in rural Dominican Republic. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
• With $20, your donation can purchase 2,000 vitamins.
• With $300, your donation can purchase 200 bottles of Children’s Acetaminophen.
• With $500, your donation can buy enough medications to stock our mobile pharmacy for one day.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Bronx chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to the Dominican Republic this upcoming spring! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at Bronx will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in the Dominican Republic.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2017, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2018. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of December 21-29, 2017
