Joselin Mabel Mejia

Background
Our Public Health Team was working in the rural community of El Espinito when they met 21-year-old Joselin Mabel. With an infectious smile and happy persona, Joselin takes life in stride despite her debilitating condition. Joselin has bilateral congenital cataracts and severe mental retardation. Because of this, she is limited to spending most of her time laying down on a worn out mattress.

Next Steps
With your help, we hope to get Joselin a wheelchair and inflatable mattress. We believe that with these items, she will lead a better and happier life.

Update: Case Closed
September 2015

On September 9 a few members of our health staff delivered a new mattress to Joselin. They also delivered a wheelchair which was generously donated by the student volunteers from the University of Toronto. These two additions to Joselin’s home will provide her more comfort and mobility as she continues to share her smile with family and friends.
